Discover the Jaecoo J6: The World’s Next Big Electric SUV Sensation in 2025

Introducing the Jaecoo J6, an exciting new electric SUV set to make a global impact by mid-2025. Known in China as the iCar 03, this vehicle is poised to make waves under the Jaecoo brand as it launches worldwide. Despite the “iCar” name, there’s no connection to Apple Inc., whose electric vehicle project has been shelved for now. In China, Chery markets this model under the iCar brand, while Jaecoo and Omoda names are used internationally. Jaecoo is designed for off-road enthusiasts, whereas Omoda is tailored for urban dwellers.

The Jaecoo J6 is a standout with its bold, boxy design, perfect for those who crave rugged adventures. Picture it as a modern, all-electric alternative to the Suzuki Jimny. Measuring 4,406 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, the J6 fits into the same category as the popular Toyota Corolla Cross, offering ample space and versatility.

With a wheelbase of 2,715 mm, the Jaecoo J6 comfortably seats four adults, providing more room than the Corolla Cross’s 2,640 mm wheelbase. As of mid-2024, the specific variants for different markets are yet to be finalized, but excitement is already building.

Currently, the Jaecoo J6 is available in electric-only versions. It features a rear-wheel-drive single motor producing 135 kW and 184 Nm of torque. For those seeking more power, a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version delivers 205 kW and 279 Nm, with a 0-100 kph time of about 6.5 seconds. Depending on the battery pack, the range varies from 401 km to 501 km, based on the China Light Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The largest battery option is a 69.8 kWh lithium-ion phosphate pack.

While it’s still too early to confirm all the technology and features that will be available in each market, the model we experienced was equipped with flush door handles, a side-opening tailgate, a sleek digital dashboard, and a large, high-quality infotainment touchscreen. The minimalist interior design relies on the touchscreen for most functions, adding to the vehicle’s modern appeal. Among the various vehicles we tested in China, the Jaecoo J6 stood out with its striking blend of retro exterior styling and cutting-edge interior technology.

Though the Jaecoo J6 is not a direct competitor to the Suzuki Jimny, it shares a similar appeal as a unique, off-road-inspired crossover that resonates with urban consumers worldwide.

As an electric vehicle, the Jaecoo J6 may come with a higher price tag in some markets due to the additional costs associated with EV imports and infrastructure challenges. However, with the competitive pricing strategies we’ve seen from Chery, Omoda, and Jaecoo, there’s hope that the J6 will be priced sensibly and competitively across different regions. We’re optimistic that this global sensation will capture the hearts of adventure-seekers everywhere.
