Alberto Fujimori, the former president of Peru, has passed away at the age of 86.

Alberto Fujimori, Peru’s former president, who was convicted of human rights abuses and corruption, has died at 86.

Fujimori led Peru from 1990 to 2000 but was removed from office due to corruption allegations.

His firm approach against a left-wing rebel group, which was close to taking power, earned him praise from many.

However, his campaign against the rebels led to severe abuses, including the deaths of 25 people by government-supported death squads, which resulted in a long prison sentence for him.

Even two decades after leaving office, many still supported Fujimori. Tearful Peruvians gathered outside his home after his four children announced his death, with some calling him a ‘national hero.’ His children, Keiko, Hiro, Sachie, and Kenji, released a statement saying, ‘After a long fight with cancer, our father, Alberto Fujimori, has passed away.
